Gilmour Space Technologies has finally shown images of the Eris rocket at the Bowen Orbital Launch facility in Queensland via Cameron Dick MP, Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment.

In the original post on X (Twitter), the minister acknowledged the work of Gilmour Space Technology, highlighting the courage of founders Adam Gilmour (CEO) and James Gilmour (Director).

The Eris rocket (now known as Block 1) is a 3 stage, hybrid rocket:

  • Payload Mass: up to 215 kg (305 kg)

  • Orbits: 500 km SSO (500 km Equatorial Orbits)

  • Payload Fairing: 1.5 m diameter

  • Avionics: Precise controls using ERIS avionics and software algorithms/systems developed from spaceflight-proven technologies

  • Propulsion: Proprietary hybrid rocket engine with 110kN thrust

This first launch attempt of Eris rocket since the failure of the original rocket Vision One rocket in 2019, is expected to launch sometime in April / May 2024.

The Space Down Under had an interview with CEO Adam Gilmour in 2019 where he went into further detail about the Vision One failure: https://youtu.be/sj-PeD4kcms?si=us9MafzfHhtGAGxj
